We’re fully confident that our overear pad development is significantly ahead of schedule.
Zaylli’s ComfortHealthy Acoustics is about one thing: long listening sessions shouldn’t mean heat, sweat, or pressure. So we built a completely different overear pad for LYRÖ — a fully open overear design that leaves the back of your ear almost entirely exposed, with no stuffy buildup.
Audiophiles have chased the “offear open” dream for years — AKG K1000, MySphere 3/3.1, RAAL SR1a / CA1a, and other toptier “earspeaker” concepts. The comfort can be exceptional, but two issues are common:
· bass is hard to keep in a truly open, offear layout
· stability gets tricky: without a pad ring stabilizing around the ear area, many designs rely on stronger clamp at other points, and because they’re often heavy, they can still feel less secure
Our prototype solves this with what may be our most complex pad-side acoustic system ever, plus the LYRÖ ergonomics concept. In internal measurements and listening, this fully open over-ear structure achieves:
· Bass extension reaching the 20 Hz region for a truly open over-ear layout
· A dual effect of air conduction + bone conduction that brings the low end much closer to a Harman-style target (air conduction alone already delivers bass beyond many typical open/closed full-size headphones)
· The core LYRÖ strengths: transparency, ultra-low distortion, extreme speed, and clean waterfall decay
· Listening scores showing soundstage and “air” far beyond conventional over-ear constructions
Just as important: LYRÖ itself is very light, and our headband system is excellent. We also borrowed the key mechanical advantage of normal over-ear pads—stabilizing around the full ring of the ear area—and implemented the same force/structure logic. The result is more secure positioning, with clamp feel no more noticeable than typical full-size headphones, and we made it adjustable.
What’s next: during the Spring Festival, (and keep iterating by 3D-printing new prototype revisions). we’ll keep tuning the mids and highs. The final curve won’t simply reuse the onear LYRÖ pad’s Zaylli curve — it will be Harmaninspired for a more balanced result. We also hope supporters can buy this overear pad set on our official website before shipment.
